Dr. Dima answers patient question about “topical line fillers”

I recently read about a line filler that you can apply topically that works as well as injections. Dr. Dima, please tell us what is this? Is it true? If it is, how does one get it? Topical wrinkle treatments that claim to “instantly” get rid of wrinkles promise far more than they can deliver. In fact, many companies, including L’Oreal, Estee Lauder and Proctor & Gamble are being investigated by the Advertising Standards Authority for unsubstantiated advertising claims. What does occur is the temporary “illusion” of fine line (not deep wrinkles) softening by light reflection mechanisms. In other words, the “nanoprisms” applied to the skin are optical diffusers that minimize the shadow effect that wrinkles cause. Other ingredients can include peptides, emu oil, hyaluronic acid all of which can temporarily give the skin a plumped appearance either by helping the skin to hold onto water molecules or by lightly irritating the skin resulting in mild swelling. Remember Preparation H as the best kept secret? It does the same thing and it’s less expensive. As far as other so called “miracle” ingredients such as caviar, stem cells, collagen, seaweed, and extracts of jungle plants with names to difficult to pronounce should, in my opinion, be reserved for gourmet cooking experiments only.
