Islam and cosmetic procedures?
I know that plastic surgery is haram in Islam to a certain extent. If their are some deformities you are allowed to fix them but if it’s for beauty you aren’t allowed to fix them. I’ve had an issue with something on my face for years now. I am only 25 years old and I’ve had this problem since I was young, even in my early teens, about 12 or 13. I have these lines from the corner of my nose down to my lips, nasal labial folds and they make me look angry or like I’m in a bad mood. People ask me a lot "are you okay? You look mad." And if I smile for too long, these lines become deeper and red and are very noticeable. I want to get these injections called restylane, just to fill up these lines. I think what it’s from is I don’t have enough fat in this area of my face. I don’t want to alter the way i look at all, alhamdulilah I am happy with my appearance, with the exception of these deep lines I’ve had for years. Since these aren’t lines from aging, would it be haram to fix them? I feel they are sort of a deformity…in a way. Could you please show me any links to back up your answers if you have any? Thanks!
Islam is the easiest religion to follow. It is from the Most Merciful Lord. Do not listen to maulvis. Listen to voice of your own conscience. Their approach is " whatever is not expressly permitted in Quran and Hadis " is haram. The reality is other way round. What is haram is expressly prohibited. Any other thing is permissible, unless it has an element of fraud, misgivings or pride.
Here you clearly have a medical condition, which calls for a small cosmetic operation. Remember what our beloved prophet SAW said: " Actions are based on intentions". As for I am concerned, I do not see any sin in the surgery. If you are still in doubt, do an istikhara. You know a Muslim is like a mirror to other Muslim and I have written this answer in that spirit.
