Juvederm Injections: Understanding The Cosmetic Procedure

Nothing says I love you on Valentine’s Day like a gift certificate for laser <a title=Hair removal at Canyon State Laser! href=http://canyonstatelaser.com/page/1lq85/Resources/Hair_Removal.html> hair removal</a> or a juvederm injection. While you may not want to become a specialist and go through <a title=Juvederm training at Canyon State Laser! href=http://canyonstatelaser.com/page/1lq8c/Resources/Juvederm_Training.html>juvederm training</a>, train yourself to make sure you know what type of procedure to expect.

The first step to understanding the procedure is taking the time to understand some of the common terminology that can pop up during a conversation with the provider. Here are some words that you should know.

Allergan: This is the pharmaceutical company that developed Botox and Juvederm

Dermal Filler: This is a type of medical device that is implanted or injected and it plumps up the skin. Essentially this is what is used during the Juvederm injection.

Hyaluronic acid: This is found in the connective tissue of the human body as a large part of the cellular matter. A synthetic of this acid has been approved by the FDA to be used in dermal fillers.
Injector or Nurse Injector: This is the person who will provide your juvederm treatment.

Numbing cream: Usually done before the procedure to help with any discomfort

Topical anesthetic: This type of numbing agent is used on the surface of the skin or gums.

People often will undergo this type of treatment because the change is visible immediately. In this day and age the sooner we get results the better. Unfortunately, swelling will take away some of the initial visual appeal and may take a few days to clear up. While results can differ based on the individual you can expect to experience some slight discomfort. Another thing to realize is that this treatment is not permanent; if you do not continue with the injections everything will simply go back to the way it was before the treatment.

Now that you understand some of the most commonly used terms surrounding Juvederm injections and you understand the most immediate side effects it is a good idea to put together some questions to ask during your initial consultation. Ask questions that can help put you at ease regarding the procedure. Here are some ideas.

Do you regularly do this type of treatment?

What is your training in this type of treatment? What is your board certification?

Will you be the one providing the injection or do you have other trained staff?

Is everything used here FDA approved specifically for cosmetic reasons?

What will I experience post-treatment? What are the immediate side effects?

How long can I expect the results to last? How often will I need the treatment?

These are just some simple questions to get you thinking about what you might want to ask the doctor performing the procedure. Make sure that you check reviews regarding specific clinics and ask around to see if anyone you know might recommend a specific place if they’ve had any success. Don’t waste your time and money with a place that is not going to provide you with the results you desire. Unless you often receive these types of treatments for Valentine’s Day with a gift card, my guess is you’ve been saving for some time or have enough money to spare. However, with costs as high as $2000 you want to make sure it is money well spent. Take the time to do some research so you can be happy with your results.
